The paintings above the platform in the Christ Church Lake Forest Sanctuary will be on display throughout our current series in the Gospel of Luke, and depict the hands of Christ through various stages of His life. (His birth, His healing, His teaching, His death, and His resurrection, and His ascension) They refer to the incarnation: that God came to earth in the flesh through the person of Christ. Jesus was the physical manifestation of God, the vessel for God’s presence and work, the “hands of God” while He was here among us. But now, the church (as the body of Christ) is the hand of God at work in the world. The hands in the paintings will be painted gradually as we move through our study of the gospel of Luke, and they will be painted from photographs of various hands from our congregation.
